Arjun Ram Meghwal, New Law Minister of Union Government

Kiran Rijiju held the office of Union Law Minister in July 2021. He is the son of the First Protem Speaker of the Arunachal State Assembly Mr. Rinchin Kharu. He is now relieved of his duties and replaced by Mr. Arjun Ram Meghwal as the new Law Minister of the Union Government who was formerly Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and MoS Culture. Now Mr. Kiran Rijiju has been allocated Ministry of Earth Science.

The opposition has targeted the BJP many times and the reason was the standoff between Mr. Kiran Rijiju and Judiciary. The remarks by Mr. Rijiju regarding Judiciary were tarnishing the image of the BJP. Mr. Rijiju’s remarks against the collegium System and his calling of some Retired Judges as anti-India publicly have given opportunities for opposition parties to criticize the Union Government.

A bench led by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Krishna Kaul had also made a complaint of Mr. Rijiju to Attorney General R Venkataramani regarding his comments on Indian Judiciary. In December last year, Mr. Rijiju had said that a constitutional body like Supreme Court should not be hearing “Bail applications and Frivolous PILs. Which also received a strong reply from Hon’ble Justice Mr. D.Y. Chandrachud (CJI).

So, BJP was not in the mood to carry out the risks associated with Mr. Rijiju which often brought BJP to Criticism.
