The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh restores the protest

In line with the Oudh Bar Association, Lucknow Bar Association, Central Bar Association, Lucknow and many other Bar Associations, the parent body of these Bar Associations the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh held a virtual meeting on 10.09.2023 at 09:00 PM. In the virtual meeting, it was decided that the Advocates in the State will be abstaining from doing judicial work on 11.09.2023 and 12.09.2023. The further course of action shall be decided in the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh meeting proposed to be held on 12.09.2023 at 08:00 PM.

There was anger and immense dissatisfaction amongst the Advocates of the state when the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh called off the abstinence. As opposed to the resolution of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, the Oudh Bar Association and various District Bar Associations passed a resolution criticising the parent body and presenting solidarity with their Advocate brothers and sisters of Hapur, Uttar Pradesh. Mr. Pradeep Kumar Singh, the Co-Chairman of Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh has also resigned from his post as a co-chairman on 10.09.2023 to protest against the behaviour of the District Administration, Hapur. Mr. Shirish Kumar Mehrotra, a Member of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh who is also the Ex-Chairman of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh proposed to call off a meeting of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh to discuss the no-confidence motion against the present Chairman. This series of Events compelled the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh to restore the protest.

The abstinence from doing judicial work by the Advocates throughout the State was called on by the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh and other Bar Associations to protest against the inhuman, deplorable ‘Lathi Charge’ by the District Administration of Hapur. Thereafter, along with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh various other State Bar Councils of various States decided to stand with their brothers and sisters at Hapur by abstaining from doing the judicial work.
