The issue of Refund-
On 22 February 2025, US President Donald Trump said that he was trying to get back the billions of dollars. This money was sent by former President Biden’s Administration to support Ukraine in the war against Russia. His comments came when the US and Ukraine were on the verge of negotiating a mineral resource deal. Unlike his predecessor he is not in any mood to support any war or country, he is placing the US first.
He said, “I want them to give us something for all of the money that we put up. We are asking for rare earth and oil, anything we can get. We are going to get our money back because it’s just not fair. And we will see, but I think we are pretty close to a deal, and we better be close because that has been a horrible situation”.
Ukraine’s point-
Mr. Keith Kellogg, Trump’s special envoy, met Zelensky this week and said that the Ukrainian President understood that signing a deal with the US was critical. It is speculated that Ukraine is not ready for the terms and conditions of the present draft and is considering changing them. Ukraine wants whatever agreements are signed between the US and Ukraine to include a security guarantee as it battles Russia’s nearly three-year invasion.
President Trump wants to have rare earth minerals worth $500 billion from Ukraine in return for the US aid made during the war. However, $500 billion is much higher than US aid figures. Ukraine is also opposed to this condition of the US, questioning the validity of the partnership between the two. As per the official figures, the US gave $60 billion to Ukraine as military aid since Russia’s invasion.
The Reality-
The war was well known to be pushed by the previous US administration and NATO members. They wanted to push back Russia where Ukraine became the sacrificial pawn. Since then, the major land mass and population of Ukraine have been wiped out. Europeans are also opposing Russia and day by day putting sanctions on Russia. However, They are still buying the gas from Russia, on this point they are silent. By their sanction, many major oil refineries shut down and they have to buy oil from India. Now, India is buying a major portion of fuel from Russia. So, here indirectly Europeans using Russian oil refined by Indian refineries.

The world community must think that is it always right whatever is done by the powerful. The whole world knows what is the whole game but everyone is a silent spectator. Since our childhood, we have been taught to be kind, and gentle, and not to be selfish but probably these things are worthless in global politics. To survive as a state of world community one must be very selfish and opportunist.
