Mr. Shivkishor Gaur, Chairman of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, ordered the Bar Association of Gorakhpur to call off the strike. The Bar Association of Gorakhput has been continuing the strikes to oppose the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The Chairman has, by an order dated 05.03.2025, ordered the Bar Association of Gorakhpur to call off the strike. In addition to this, the Bar Association has been ordered to report the calling off to the Bar Council of UP.
The order of the Chairman-
The Chairman of the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh has condemned the continuing strike by the Bar Association of Gorakhpur. As per the order, the strike opposes the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The strikes for opposing the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2025 have ended in the whole country. On the issue of the Bill, a meeting was called on by the Bar Council of India on 23.02.2025. The meeting was attended by the officials of the various State Bar Councils, including the Chairman of the Bar Council of UP. In the meeting, the Chairman of the Bar Council of India, Mr. Manan Kumar Mishra, informed that he had a discussion with the Union Minister of Law regarding the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2025 in which the Minister has ensured that this Bill shall be considered only after inviting suggestions and comments from the Advocates. On this assurance, the strike was called off in the country.
In the light of the above-stated facts and circumstances, Mr. Chairman has by this order expected the Bar Association to call off the strike and report the same to the Bar Council.

The Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2025-
The Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2025 was enacted to amend the provisions of the Advocates Act, 1961. It had the aim of modernizing the administration of legal education and the legal profession in India. The Bill proposes various new definitions like advisory board, bar association, bar examination, center of legal education, misconduct and verification certificate. The bill has amended many previously existing definitions and provisions. The Bill has been very strongly opposed by the Advocate community because the Amendment proposes many provisions which are against the interest of the Advocates.
