Yamandu Orsi is a Uruguayan politician, former Mayor, and teacher. He has been serving as the 43rd President of Uruguay since March 1st, 2025, after winning the general election in 2024. He is a member of the left-wing Movement of Popular Participation, a constituent party of the Broad Front. After the Broad Front’s defeat in the 2019 general election, Orsi, a 57-year-old politician, has been seen as a contender for the 2024 Presidential office. While entering his office on the first day, he pledged to strengthen the society and improve the economic condition.
In his inaugural address, he said, “We all know that we have to treasure our democratic construction in times where exclusionary logic and expressions of distrust in traditional politics proliferate.” He also declares, “Let us always be adversaries, but never enemies and let us distance ourselves as far as possible for cynicism.” Last month he also made it clear that he will not shift to the Presidential mansion, instead he will continue to live in his residence.
